Chapter 1       Skyler: A Little Bit About Me.

“Mum can I please give Vonny his food now?” I asked my mother as she came down the stairs on her way to one of those boring meetings that queens have to attend all the time, even if they don’t like the people there or just fall asleep during meetings.
“Why are you feeding him now?” She answered
“Because I am leaving soon and I thought if I feed him now then he won’t get a late dinner.” I replied
“Well okay then, but how are you going to get to the earth floor if you are not riding Glamorous De Von?” She asked
“I’m going to ride that new horse, Cat that needs someone to break her in.” I answered.
“Okay then, but make sure that you put a saddle on her and don’t forget the bridle sweets.” She said as she walked out the door with some knights.

Okay maybe I should stop and introduce myself. My name is Skyler Grace Flyer, That was my mother Queen Kylee Grace, my father is away on some island right now but he will be coming back soon. I don’t really care were he is since he is always away signing peace treaty's or in some war, but he doesn’t let me even look at a sword! This annoys me a great deal. I am 19 years old. Now I bet you are wondering why my mother called were I was going the earth floor. Well you see we live in a world were we are all kind of separate, not that we don’t want to be together, but we work better that way. We don’t get into each other’s space and that is very important when it comes to talents. I live in the sky and live in a palace made of cloud, rain and snow.  

 

My best friend lives on the earth floor were there are houses and caves that are made of wood, stone, plants and leaves, anything that you can find on or in the earth. I only am allowed to the area were the guardians are, my mother always worries about me going there because of all the animals that live around there, but where the guardians are there is always people to protect you there. What she doesn’t know is that I’m not scared of animals and we get on really well. I guess being the daughter of the sun she had never seen animals and wasn’t used to them so she just made them out to be big dreadful things that would eat whereas most of them are soft and fluffy. Nevertheless I had to obey my mother’s wish.

 

 As walked out to feed my horse Glamorous De Von I ran into my oldest brother Anaconda.
“Hey what are you doing?” He asked
“I’m going to go and feed Vonny.” I answered
“Oh really” He said in a not believing kind of voice with his eye brows raised.

“Yeah” I said. “What else would I be doing?”

“You not going to go visit Saf once you done right?” he asked curiously.

Anaconda had this massive crush on my best friend Safire and it kind of freaked me out. He would constantly want to come with me when I went to see her and the scary thing is she’s madly in love with him too. So I would pretty much go a little unnoticed when he’s around.   
“Why so you can come with and flirt with my best friend in front of me and behind father’s back?” I asked cheekily trying to avoid the question.  His face turned pink and he started leaving.

“No I was just wondering. That’s what you usually do.” He said and left kind of quick. That had done the trick! I didn’t have to worry about Anaconda coming with me this time.

 

I have three brothers, all of them older than me, which is nice in a way but it also means I constantly have competition and someone watching me! First there is Anaconda, he’s now the eldest and first in line to my father’s throne. He’s charming, tall dark and handsome with, apparently, a very good figure. All the ladies love him and it doesn’t take him much to turn their heads.

 

 Then there is Jade and Isaac. They twins. They not as outgoing as Anaconda and like staying in the palace most of the time. Isaac likes archery more than sword fighting and Jade has always been a bit of a sly one. Jade is arrogant and would rather he be first in line to the throne than Anaconda. So he and Anaconda bump heads rather regularly. Isaac is the gentler one. He goes with the flow and most of the time is in his own little world. I get on way better with Anaconda than the twins but Isaac has always been there to listen to my dramas so we pretty close too. I can tell him almost anything.

 

I also have two younger sisters. Kite who is 7 and Kimmy who’s 5. They very much girly girls and spend the whole time in the palace being waited on hand and foot and playing dress up. They always do exactly as old but Kimmy has no problem in stating her opinion on things. She is full of questions and answers are never good enough. They will bother grow up to be fine princesses that lots of young men will want to marry but they not nearly daring and curious enough for me. They very cute but I find them just as boring as they are adorable.

I walked into the stable were I saw Sal walking around the stable; apparently she had broken out of her stall again! It has probably been like the eighth time this week and it’s only Wednesday.

Sal is probably the cheekiest horse I have ever met or seen,
I walked up to her and then she grabbed the bridle, with her teeth, that was on the hook and threw it at me.

 “Wow girl” I said as I caught it before it hit me in the face. I reached for her halter that was on her face but she tried to bite me! I dodged it. I was a little angry now. I grabbed a rope and threw it over her neck which made her stop. Now that she thought she was caught, I could easily walk up to her and put her into the pasture. And that’s what I did.

“We seriously need to make a Sal-proof gate or something! Else one day she’ll get out and we will never catch her.”

 

When I was finally done with Sal, I went to the back of the stable were my beautiful prince Vonny was. “Hey Vonny” I said as I walked in.
“Oh Hi” he replied. “A little early for dinner isn’t it?” He asked me
“Oh yeah I was going to feed you now because I am leaving soon for Saf’s (Safire Elizabeth) house.” I answered him
“Oh so you don’t want to ride me down there?” He said in a little bit of a sulky voice.

“Well I do but you always complain about the earth floor, you absolutely drive me crazy with your stupid jokes and cruelness.” I replied
“Yeah I guess you’re right, I try to be nice, but I have to admit, it’s not that easy.” He said in a sad tone “But who are you going to ride there then?”

 

Okay let me stop there and quickly explain about my horse. His name is Glamorous De Von, he is 6 years old. I broke him in really young. He is the deepest darkest black ever imaginable with white socks. This is kind of unusual for a horse living in the sky because people always want white horses since they’re not as easy to spot. But he can disappear pretty quickly in a storm. This is what I love best, though father doesn’t like me riding in storms. He’s a stallion with a really good build. He is a Friesen horse. He’s friendly and doesn't mind new people but is a little bit arrogant and thinks that because he lives in the sky he is better than the animals on the earth floor.

“I think I’m going to ride that new mare we got yesterday from the water floor.” I answered him
“But she is so rude to me and blames me for every single thing that goes wrong around here.” He whined “Like the time her food came and there was a little fly in it you know what she said she said eick that stupid little thing that that De Bad horse put in my meal. I mean do you really want me to put up with that!”  I could tell he thought this was a really big deal. Horses are really weird things when you can understand them, but don’t get me wrong I still adore having one.
“Alright” I said “How about I get her a stall that’s not near yours anymore?”
“Yes please that would make life fun and um um um good again.”
“Okay then good when I get back late tonight I’ll move her to a new stall, but then you have to change your attitude ok boy? I got to go now and get her saddle and bridle.” I said as I closed the stall door and walked to the very back of the stable and grabbed a saddle and bridled that looked like it had not been used in a long time.

“Okay Cat here I come!” I walked to her stall undid the lock and placed to saddle, with the bridle on it, on the wood stand that we keep in every stall for this need.

“Hey girly.” I said as I walked in “Want to go on a ride to the earth floor?” She whinnied then reared. “Wow girl.” I said as I grabbed her halter and plucked a lead rope on her. I’ll saddle you here and then walk you out to the round-yard. I don’t think it would be too safe mounting her here.

When we got to the round yard after saddling her I looked up at the hills of cloud when I remembered that Fritz Clumper once was there and I remembered the battle that my oldest brother fought in and died in. It was the saddest day of my life.

I had insisted on coming to battle because I secretly had a crush on Fritz’s son Kieren, when I was on my horse dressed up in amour to blend into the other knights when someone stabbed me with a javelin and knocked me off my horse, James. I fell on the ground and was about to run when he shot my stabbed horse with the javelin and almost stabbed me when my brother, Caleb, jumped in and grabbed his javelin. They fought for a while until Fritz noticed what was happening and from behind stabbed my brother and by that time I had hidden in a bush to watch the fight. I was almost drowned in tears. It was the saddest moment in my life.

The army retreated and Fritz won that battle, since then my father has forbidden me to go to war or even any place where war has once been. Having his eldest son killed scared him for life.  He now hates Fritz even more for it. That’s why he puts so much into Anaconda since Anaconda in now first in line to the throne.

 

 I still go to wars and battles under cover with Safire though. She and I are almost unstoppable when we work together as a team and use our talents together as one force. The difference between the two of us when united is stronger than any other. But we have to be careful with our talents. That is the law the Sovereign Ruler set when He gave His children their talents. But some people disobey that law. Wicked people like the traitors. Jolene Marine, African Fritz Clumper, Max Walter and sadly Kieran Fritz’s son. They use their talents against the Sovereign Ruler and against us.

You are probably thinking what on earth these talents she is talking about are. Well most people in our world have very special talents. It’s like a gift or power given to them by the Sovereign Ruler. Each person’s is different. Some people’s talents are stronger than others depending on how high they are in leadership and how well they use them. My talents are that I can talk to horses, freeze people, I can make rain clouds or snow where ever I wish. I can burn things. I can communicate with anything that flies, and when I sing everyone dances and does what ever dance moves I wish.

Once I had saddled up Cat I grabbed my saddle bag that had some homemade cookies in it and a pot of hot chocolate and strapped it to the saddle I jumped up on the horse and unfolded her wings. Most horses are winged horses. Some of the very ordinary horses on the earth floor don’t and some of the water horses have fins instead but all the important horses have wings and can go anywhere in our country.

 

I flew as fast as I dare go on a new horse. What I love about wing horse is the fact that it’s almost impossible to fall off! I bet you never really thought of it like that but trust me I’ll give you some examples why not: with a horse they can bolt with you on them and go really really fast then all of a sudden trip or see something in front of them and suddenly stop, well if you are flying and the horse bolts there is nothing it can run into. Unless you’re on the earth level which is really rare for me. You can’t really trip ether because you flying through clouds and sky! Unless you have a really clumsy horse.

 

 Another thing is if the horse rears or bucks you really don’t feel it because the horse is flying and the horses have four wings, two really big ones for keeping us in the air and two smaller ones that fit nicely between both of the big ones, so if I really want to I can rap the little ones around me and if the horse takes off I can keep myself on. See it’s very practical to have a flying horse.

 

I glided down to the earth floor and folded up Cats wings and walked like a regular horse through the much poorer markets that I often stop at to buy some little homemade beads or some pretty little wooden toys for my little sisters. I love shopping and buying stuff from people who don’t have much money at all. It always makes me so happy to see their little faces light up and go and show there parents how they sold some special beads that they made themselves to a traveling girl, which is what they all call me because I often ride through there little towns on a horse.

I knew that there were many more towns of people that I would have to ride through to get to Saf’s house but I didn’t care just as long as I could ride through the town of Beggars. Its proper name in Beggars Village but it’s pretty much the same. I used to hate riding though there but I started to meet people there and they always made me feel welcome.

 

 You are probably wondering why I don’t fly right? Well I don’t fly because of all the trees and dangerous things that are around on the earth floor. I could, Saf does, but I’m not as experienced as her and all the people get really scared when they see a flying horse.  Now whenever I come, using my talents, I light up fires for them, I give people ice for their wounds, I water their gardens and fill their wells with water and sometimes fill their dam. I even teach them how to dance and sing. Since only important people get given talents this amazes them. I love going through there but today all I would be able to do is talk to people as I go through because I was already late for Saf’s house.
